This area is located in Galicia, in the northwest of mainland Spain.
In the area there are the following habitats: mountains, valleys with steep or rugged slopes, streams, reservoirs, farms, grasslands, dry heaths, scrubs and broadleaf forests. The forests consist of holm oak and chestnut trees.

Ornithological importance

This area is important due to the breeding of rupicolous species with restricted distribution in Galicia. Especially the Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), Egyptian Vulture (Neophron percnopterus), Eurasian Eagle-owl (Bubo bubo), Alpine Swift (Apus melba), Red-billed Chough (Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax), and Rock Pigeon (Columba livia). Highlight, also, for abundant presence of the Subalpine Warbler (Sylvia cantillans), Common Nightingale (Luscinia megarhynchos), and Cirl Bunting (Emberiza cirlus).
